Nigel Cox is an artist who creates hyper realism paintings he uses the medium of oil paint and paints on linen. The artist defines his paintings as Photorealistic Minalism”. The artist is able to capture the complete true essence of a subject and to paint to a high quality we are in a sense left feeling as if we are actually observing photographic work. The artist definition of Photorealistic Minalism” is style of art were the artist places highly photorealistic painting on a simple background, the colour of the background range from the colour ofwwhite, blue and grey all in there lighter and more suttle form. The artist extracts the figures from real life backgrounds and plces them on calm backgrounds. The artist work gives us a sense of calm and tranquillity, a sense of relaxation is found by observing the artist work this is conjured by the calm background.

“My love of large open spaces and lack of clutter is obvious in my work but, I am also fascinated by detail. These opposing elements are merged in my paintings in a style which I call Photorealistic Minimalism*.” Nigel Cox

“The figures are alone but not lonely; searching but not anxious, anticipating yet calm. They have an inner peace and strength and are at one with their surroundings. The paintings reflect solitude, tranquillity and confidence, giving every day scenes an unexpected and surreal feeling while keeping them solidly within the real world.”Nigel Cox

The artists been inspired by an exhibition he was on were he was faced with large open space at on his time at sea this influence is evident to sea when observing his work as we see the entourned by vast levels of background space even leading us t question is this the reason his selects to use of mild blue and grey background.

During the expedition I was at sea, on an ice cap or in some remote location for weeks or months on end. Spending large amounts of time alone, surrounded by the staggering beauty of vast and often barren spaces had a profound affect and the essence of this experience strongly influenced my painting. During the expedition I sketched and worked in watercolour, illustrating places of interest in my diary. Nigel Cox

This formidably captured in the artist work as we see the figure surrounded by vast open space.I admire the artist technical ability his capability to capture a subject to such a high quality depth and meticulous detail. The work has a great sense of presence when observing the artist work it not only tremendously fills the canvas space it also fills the space of the room it resonates visual poetics. It is extremely engaging at in a way makes the viewer dream to be part of this other world brought to life by the artist. The Artist work correlates to information overload as it challenges the bombardment of information, by just placing subjects in tranquil environment. Also the artist recent exhibition oblivion correlates with information overload we can observe figure being completely submerged and immersed by there phone and in a effect what seems to be blocking of the real outer world his work correlates with escapism of information overload.
